Momentum

Momentum by Susan Williams, Shoes and perspex

Shoes and perspex

I made my first shoe work 23 years ago and have since made many more, partly inspired by this Victorian house, now also my home, originally built by shoe barons Wilson and Watkins and perfectly fitting my site-responsive ethos and this exhibition A Sense of Place, which I host. The shoes, diverse in character and heavy with personal references are crafted to fit the space and move together as one, reflecting time and place, the gathering of this event and the life of the garden.  This of course includes the history of the town of Kettering, forged as we know it today, through the shoe industry.

Shoes are arranged on small stands which appear invisible, although they are not hidden.
